We hope you had a delightful Thanksgiving holiday filled with joy and gratitude! You must have reflected on many things you were thankful for; perhaps your team and the people you work with are one of them.
November is both National Gratitude and Career Development Month for a reason. Keeping your team engaged and nurturing their growth and development is the best way to show gratitude towards them.
Unfortunately, the reality of how our employees may feel about our organization is discouraging. A recent Gallup study revealed that only 23% of workers are actively engaged, 18% are actively disengaged, and 50% are “conditionally engaged.” This means your disengaged employees can be potentially disruptive to their peers’ productivity, especially those in the 59% who are on the fence.
Just as we gathered around the table last week to share a meal, this may be the perfect time for you to nudge the teams to come together to share knowledge, skills, opportunities, and chart development plans for 2024. It’s essential that no one feels their growth is stunted or their potential unfulfilled. Showing gratitude to your employees must be about action and not just words.
On that note, in this issue, we focus on how adding one ingredient – CARE – to your overall organizational menu can elevate your employee engagement. There are also some tips on managing time effectively and undertaking the often-put-off task on the list – succession planning.
Let’s carry the spirit of Thanksgiving into our everyday work by continuing to support and uplift each other. Remember – if your employees grow, you grow. And the onus is on you to foster an environment where no one leaves due to a lack of development opportunities.
