What's the Secret to Finishing the Year Strong?
Q4 has a way of arriving all at once. Goals that looked comfortable in January suddenly feel tight, calendars fill up, and the pressure to finish strong starts to build.
So what’s the secret to finishing the year strong?
It usually isn’t about working longer hours or pushing harder. It’s having a team that still has energy to give, understands how each person works best, and trusts that leadership will follow through when the pressure is on.
That’s what this issue is about: building the kind of team that can carry the final stretch together. We look at how to rally a team that’s running on empty, turn post-vacation fog into fall focus, build a successful team from the ground up, strengthen teams through greater self-awareness, and rebuild trust when it has been lost.
And trust may be the most important piece.
One of the clearest findings in our Talent Trends 2026 report, based on 451 respondents across 21 industries, is that engagement increasingly depends on trust, not simply perks or incentives. Regular one-on-ones are now standard practice at 73.8% of organizations, up from 71.3% the year before. But practices like these only strengthen a team when they’re consistent—not when they’re introduced as a temporary fix when engagement starts to slip.
Now we’re looking ahead to 2027.
The Talent Trends 2027 survey is officially open. Every finding in the report starts with leaders at small and mid-sized businesses taking a few minutes to tell us what’s really happening inside their organizations. We’d love to hear what’s happening inside yours.
Until next month.

Architects instead of Assets: The Human Edge No Algorithm Can Replace
As AI reshapes the workplace, the greatest opportunity isn’t simply to work faster or automate more. It’s to rethink the role people play—and focus on the human strengths no algorithm can replace.
For this Partner Series conversation, we’ve invited Naseer Mohammed, Founder of Ethos of HR. This session pairs two perspectives, Omnia in the US and Ethos of HR in the UK, on what it takes to lead people well right now, across generations, across a shifting employment landscape, and in a moment when it’s tempting to let a tool do the thinking for you.
